Steb-by-Step Patient Instructions

1. After Surgical Procedure
After the surgical procedure, the patient should immediately head home. Special care should be employed when the patient is getting in and out of the vehicle to avoid any impact on the head. Upon arrival home, the patient should carefully take the hat off and remove the bandage covering the recipient area (an area where grafts have been transplanted). The bandage covering the back of the head should be left untouched. It is recommended to avoid inclining or declining the head.

2. First Day
A patient should rest on the first day, avoiding any physical activity or stress. The recipient area should be protected from any physical contact. The patient should sleep in any position that will not affect the recipient area.

3. Painkillers
Painkillers are recommended during the post-surgical period. They should be taken twice a day, for two days after the surgery.

4. Shower after Hair Transplant
The head must be washed every day for two weeks after the surgery, following these instructions:

A) During the first week, the head must be washed with extreme care. Damp your head with warm water, put the baby soap/shampoo on your hands, and foam it up, apply the foam carefully to the recipient area (do not rub the head), leave for two minutes, and wash it off cautiously. The head must be dried carefully by tapping the towel to the head and using a hair drier on a cold, medium-speed setting (do not rub the head with the towel).

B) During the second week, the head should be washed more actively to remove any dried red spots. The head should be carefully rubbed with the palm of the hand or with fingertips (avoid the contact of nails with the head).

C) After two weeks, the head can be washed normally with the shampoo of reference.

5. Sutures (Only relevant for FUT)
The sutures (in cases of FUT surgery) will dissolve and disappear automatically in two-three weeks after the surgery. The loss of transplanted hair may occur during that period, which is an expected and normal phenomenon.

6. Hair Growth
The growth of transplanted hair begins in the third month. This may provoke skin irritation, and folliculitis, which will soon disappear without any trace.

7. Hair Loss
During the post-surgical period, an increased loss of non-transplanted hair that exists in the recipient area might occur. This phenomenon is called shock loss and may last for three months. All lost hair will re-grow after this period.

8. Hair Structures & Haircuts
When the transplanted hair starts to grow, initially it might have rough, twisted structure, which will go back to normal and become identical to non-transplanted hair after two- three haircuts.
Will I experience a pain during or after the hair transplant?

During the operation, due to the local anesthesia, you will not experience any pain. There will be minor pain or some swelling after the operation, which is normal. We always recommend keeping in touch with the doctor to follow up and ask any questions our patients might have. If you would like to know more, feel free to schedule a consultation with us.
